Airway Focused Dentistry and TMJ
Airway focused Dentistry in Adults
Airway is key to life. Normal breathing is silent breathing through your nose. It is quiet and effortless. It allows our bodies to go into normal deep, restorative sleep, and to awake refreshed and ready to take on each new day. Snoring and sleep apnea are not normal breathing pattern and are not healthy. Normal breathing is vital for living a vibrant, happy life. Unfortunately, millions around the world simply can’t breathe normally – especially at night. Sleep Apnea does not have to be a life sentence. Will you be one of a growing number of patients to say goodbye to CPAP forever? Vivos DNA appliance may be your pathway to a healthier more vibrant life.
DNA APPLIANCE
Dr Mirkal is the only Certified Provider of the vivos-DNA Appliance ® (Daytime Nighttime Appliance) system in Flower Mound and North Texas area. We can now treat the teeth, jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), face and airway for optimal growth and development by engaging the patient’s underlying genetics without the use of surgery with the help of DNA appliance therapy. Using the principles of Epigenetic Orthodontics, this technique activates one’s naturally occurring genes to correct underdevelopment in the craniofacial region with removable appliances worn during the evening and nighttime – during the body’s natural circadian rhythm. The bones in the craniofacial region are remodeled over time, non-surgically making a foundational correction to the structure of the airway. It is a pain-free, minimally invasive process which uses no drugs, medication, or injections.
- Straightening and aesthetically developing the healthy alignment of the teeth and dental arches
- Treating TMJ disorders
- Non-surgically treating the airway space
- Reducing and eliminating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea
How Does the DNA Appliance Work?
DNA appliance system applies light intermittent vibrational forces to your teeth, helping your jaw reach its full growth potential by stimulating your own growth centers and stem cells. Its purpose is to stimulate the maximum expression of our genetic growth potential. It gently expands the upper arch space in three dimensions, which in turn increases the size of the nasal cavity. As the upper arch is widened, the lower jaw can move forward into a more natural position. As the jaw moves forward, it pulls the tongue and soft tissues, thus increasing the size of the airway and puts the TMJ in its most natural position. A wider airway reduces the incidence of snoring and sleep apnea and increases your ability to get oxygen into your body tissues, especially during sleep. The result is a dramatic improvement in the patient’s ability to breathe. This allows many CPAP wearers to become CPAP free, providing an alternative that is truly corrective.
The 3D imaging to the right compares the width of the airway before and after treatment with the DNA Appliance®. The increase is often dramatic and very significant in the patient’s ability to breathe. It is worn like a dental or orthodontic retainer; however, it is worn only in the evening/night and few hours during day. In contrast to other appliances that rely on continuous force only – which damages sensitive tissue – the DNA appliance applies intermittent force, providing a resting period for the tissues between nightly use.
Cosmetic Benefits With Vivos DNA Appliance
The DNA Appliance system also straightens teeth and improves the whole upper airway. By improving the upper airway through an increase in facial volume, a cosmetic benefit of facial feature balancing occurs.
This holistic approach to ideal structure is superior to traditional metal braces because it treats the craniofacial, dental, TMJ and airway structures as a whole.
Patients who successfully complete the 12-24-month VivosDNA appliance treatment may no longer require CPAP or Mandibular Advancement (oral devices worn while sleeping over a lifetime). The FDA-cleared Vivos oral appliance treatment is an all-natural, non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical solution effective in addressing some of the underlying causes of OSA.
Researchers have published about 80 clinical studies showing clear and compelling evidence of changes in the overall size and position of the upper airway and surrounding facial structures. Many of these articles can be found on the vivoslife.com website.
